Legendary Nollywood Actor Olu Jacobs Dies Aged 84

Nollywood veteran actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has passed away at the age of 84. 

The news confirming the Olu Jacobs death was broken on Wednesday through an Instagram statement shared by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, and echoed by his wife, renowned actress Joke Silva. 

Honoring the late patriarch as "The Lion of Lufodo," the family expressed profound gratitude for a life well lived while appealing to social media users and bloggers to respect their privacy during their time of grief.

Born on July 11, 1942, the iconic star was widely celebrated as a patriarch of modern Nigerian cinema. 

Having trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Jacobs established an extraordinary international and domestic career that spanned stage, television, and film. 

In his later years, the veteran actor fought a prolonged battle with dementia with Lewy bodies, a neurodegenerative disorder that impaired his cognitive abilities, before his passing.

As global tributes pour in following the Olu Jacobs death, colleagues and audiences alike are reflecting on his commanding stage presence, distinct baritone voice, and foundational contributions to African filmmaking. 

Alongside Joke Silva, Jacobs helped nurture creative talent through the Lufodo Group and earned top industry accolades, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) national honor. His pioneer legacy remains firmly etched in the history of world theatre and cinema.
