Peter Obi Asks University to Release Academic Records

Amid renewed public scrutiny surrounding his educational credentials, the discussion over Peter Obi academic records UNN documents took a major turn on Tuesday after the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) publicly requested the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to release his official files to anyone making a legitimate inquiry. 

Writing in a statement shared on his official X handle, Obi declared that anyone seeking the highest political office in Nigeria must be prepared to face thorough public examination. 

He emphasized that leaders operating in a constitutional democracy should demonstrate total transparency, insisting he has nothing to conceal regarding his background, university admission, or graduation history.

The decision follows recent legal action instituted by Abayomi Arabambi, a former national publicity secretary of the Labour Party (LP), who filed three separate suits before a Federal High Court in Abuja. 

Arabambi dragged UNN, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to court, alleging that they failed to honor his formal requests to inspect Obi's certificates. 

He claimed there were name discrepancies across the documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) compared to university archives. 

In response to these claims and the resulting legal tussle over Peter Obi academic records UNN files, Obi clarified that he welcomes legitimate public interest, urging all secondary and tertiary institutions he attended both within and outside Nigeria to release his academic certificates in accordance with established privacy laws.

Challenging other political figures across the nation to follow his lead, the presidential hopeful noted that public trust in democratic governance can only be restored when leaders willingly subject their qualifications to open verification. 

He argued that disclosing official records should not be viewed as a political attack or an inconvenience, but rather as an essential step toward building institutional integrity and accountability in national leadership.
