| Spotify introduces the AI Persona badge to identify virtual artists.. Source: AI FrontPage |
Music streaming giant Spotify has announced the rollout of a new Spotify AI Persona badge starting mid-September, designed to notify listeners whenever an artist's profile represents an artificial intelligence creation rather than a real human being.
The platform explained that the label will appear on profile banners, about sections, search result notes, and playlist track listings to provide greater transparency.
Under the new policy, accounts assigned the Spotify AI Persona badge will also be excluded from users' personalized algorithmic recommendations unless a listener actively chooses to follow the virtual artist.
Spotify clarified that the label pertains specifically to an artist's public identity rather than the software tools used in production, distinguishing the feature from its existing AI Credits system for human musicians.

Accounts will have the opportunity to self-disclose their AI status or appeal decisions following internal review by the streaming platform.
The move has drawn praise from independent musicians and music fans who have raised concerns over synthetic profiles competing with human creators.
