Nollywood Actress Tope Osoba Dies at 40 After Battle With Breast Cancer

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following news that Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has died at the age of 40 after a courageous struggle with breast cancer.

Her passing was formally announced on Wednesday by fellow actress Foluke Daramola via her official Instagram page, prompting a widespread wave of tributes from colleagues, filmmakers, and fans. 

Osoba had previously opened up about her health battle in 2024 when she sought financial assistance after undergoing her initial surgery, revealing that she originally discovered a suspicious lump during a routine self-examination.

During her early medical consultations, the initial lump was dismissed by a physician who attributed the physical change to routine body shifts associated with childbearing. However, the persistent actress insisted on further diagnostic testing, which confirmed the presence of malignant cells. 

Daramola subsequently helped lead public fundraising campaigns to cover an estimated N12 million needed for secondary procedures to remove remaining cancerous tissue, while engaging Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) President Bolaji Amusan for additional support.

Her death has sparked an outpouring of emotional tributes across the creative arts sector, with friends and admirers remembering her vibrant screen roles, her contributions to Yoruba cinema, and her admirable strength throughout her public fight with breast cancer.
