Curtis Jones Joins Inter Milan From Liverpool for £30m

Liverpool have sold midfielder Curtis Jones to Inter Milan in a deal worth 35 million euros, bringing the curtain down on a career at Anfield that stretched from his academy days at the age of nine to 228 first-team appearances under two different managers. 

The transfer was completed for a base fee of 30 million euros with a further five million euros in performance-related add-ons, and the 25-year-old has signed a contract with the Serie A champions running until 2031. 

Liverpool negotiated a ten percent sell-on clause as part of the agreement, ensuring they retain a financial stake in any future transfer involving the midfielder they developed from boyhood into a professional footballer.

The deal was not straightforward to conclude. Inter first expressed interest in Jones in January, proposing a loan arrangement with an option to buy permanently — a structure Liverpool declined. 

A verbal offer of 25 million euros followed in June, which Liverpool also turned down, valuing their academy graduate, who had one year remaining on his contract, at closer to £35 million. 

The breakthrough came when Inter submitted an offer in line with the £30 million package that had previously been paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Djed Spence, a benchmark Liverpool themselves had privately indicated would likely be sufficient to reach an agreement. 

With the financial terms satisfying both clubs, the transfer was concluded without further complications.

At Liverpool, Jones gave the club consistent service across seven seasons in the first team, making his debut under Jürgen Klopp in 2019 and remaining a regular presence in the squad through the transition to Arne Slot’s management. 

Last season he appeared 49 times across all competitions but made only 18 Premier League starts, and his inability to secure a consistent starting position in central midfield ultimately made his departure a logical outcome for all parties. 

Jones becomes the third English player to join Inter this summer, following John Stones and Djed Spence, as the Italian club’s recruitment has taken a notable tilt toward the Premier League in the current window.

For Jones personally, the transfer represents one of the most significant professional steps of his career — moving from the club that shaped him entirely to one of European football’s most prestigious institutions with a five-year commitment that signals Inter’s belief in him as a meaningful contributor rather than a squad addition. 

How he adapts to Serie A’s demands and to life away from the environment he has known since childhood will be the next chapter of a story that began in Liverpool’s academy more than fifteen years ago, and which now continues in an entirely new setting at one of the continent’s most decorated clubs.
