Peter Obi has voiced concerns about his safety ahead of the 2027 general elections, alleging that opposition politicians in Nigeria are facing increasing intimidation and political pressure.
Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate said he could not even guarantee that he would be alive by the time the next presidential election takes place.
Responding to a question about whether he was certain of appearing on the ballot in 2027, Obi said he was more concerned about his personal safety than his political ambition.
"Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I'm telling you."
The former Anambra State governor alleged that every aspect of his business activities has been deliberately obstructed by the current administration.
According to him, the actions are not random but part of a wider effort to frustrate opposition figures.
"Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive."
Although Obi stopped short of directly accusing any specific individual or institution, he claimed that the pressure against him has become increasingly noticeable in his daily activities.
He maintained that opposition politicians are being personally targeted rather than challenged politically.
"They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally."
To support his claims, Obi recounted an incident at an airport where officials allegedly locked his vehicle while allowing other vehicles to leave freely.
According to him, after identifying himself, the officer in charge dismissed his complaint instead of addressing the situation.
He also claimed that some supporters now avoid inviting him to public events because they fear possible consequences.
"I have people send me invitations and say, 'My son, my daughter is getting married, but please don't come.'"
