The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, urging President Bola Tinubu to suspend him over allegations linked to the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The NDC calls for Gbajabiamila's removal followed allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the PFIPC—an agency the Presidency has repeatedly stated does not exist.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party described the allegations as serious and argued that Gbajabiamila's continued stay in office could undermine any independent investigation.

According to the NDC, the allegations raise questions about transparency, accountability and governance within the current administration.

The party alleged that although the Presidency has denied the existence of the PFIPC, the agency allegedly received budgetary allocations in the 2026 Appropriation Act and reportedly operated a domiciliary account, a Pound Sterling account and a Treasury Single Account (TSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The NDC questioned how an agency described as non-existent could allegedly open multiple government financial accounts without official approval or the required legal documentation.

It also called on the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to explain whether any forged or irregular documents were used in processing the accounts.

The opposition party further alleged that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the purported agency, describing the development as another issue requiring urgent clarification.

According to the statement, Adeyemi also alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the agency's take-off grant, reportedly valued at ₦27.39 billion, a request he claimed to have rejected.

The NDC also referenced Adeyemi's allegation that he secured his appointment after allegedly paying ₦600 million, with ₦400 million reportedly paid through intermediaries while ₦200 million remained unpaid.

The party further cited allegations linking the controversy to the death of Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the matter, as well as claims by Adeyemi that he survived multiple assassination attempts.

Based on these allegations, the NDC demanded the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to allow what it described as a transparent and impartial investigation.

The party also called on President Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the alleged activities of the PFIPC, including its reported budgetary allocations, financial transactions, account openings and staff recruitment.

In addition, the NDC urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the allegations without fear or favour.

The party also requested witness protection for Adeyemi and called for officials of the CBN, the Accountant-General's Office and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service to be questioned over their alleged roles.

However, it is important to note that these remain allegations. The Presidency has consistently maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency, and as of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor Femi Gbajabiamila had publicly responded to the latest claims made by the NDC.
