MOUAU VC Orders Refund of School Fees Paid Before NELFUND

The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has ordered the university’s Bursar to begin refunding tuition payments to students who settled their school fees before receiving their Nigerian Education Loan Fund disbursement. 

The MOUAU VC refund school fees NELFUND directive was announced publicly during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Students’ Union Government, signaling the administration’s firm commitment to ensuring that no student is left worse off due to a timing gap between fee payment deadlines and the federal loan’s actual release.

Prof. Akanwa stated clearly that the decision was designed to protect students who paid from their own resources ahead of the NELFUND disbursement from losing out on a benefit they were fully entitled to receive. 

By directing the Bursar to commence the process immediately, the Vice Chancellor ensured that affected students would not be required to file separate applications or navigate an additional bureaucratic layer to access their refunds. 

The announcement was welcomed with visible enthusiasm across the university community as a practical and student-centred response to a real administrative challenge that had quietly affected a significant number of undergraduates.

Beyond the MOUAU VC refund school fees NELFUND announcement, Prof. Akanwa used the occasion to lay out clear expectations for the upcoming academic year. 

She urged students to register their courses without delay once resumption for the 2026/2027 academic session begins, stressing that early registration would allow the university to kick off teaching activities smoothly and on schedule. 

She also addressed the newly inaugurated SUG executives directly, charging them to lead with a sense of responsibility, champion student welfare genuinely, and maintain a cooperative relationship with university management in the interest of campus peace and academic progress.

The inauguration marked a fresh chapter in student governance at MOUAU, with the Vice Chancellor setting a tone of accountability and forward-thinking leadership from both the institution and its student representatives.
