Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming he was offered N500 billion to contest against Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 general election, describing the allegation as false and entirely fabricated.
In a statement issued on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan said the Goodluck Jonathan N500 billion claim was a deliberate attempt to drag him into unnecessary political controversy and mislead Nigerians ahead of the next election cycle.
According to Eze, the report falsely alleged that Jonathan disclosed receiving a N500 billion offer to challenge Peter Obi and split votes in the South-South region during the 2027 presidential election.
He pointed out that the publication failed to provide any credible evidence to support the allegation, including where or when the supposed statement was made, who allegedly made the offer, or any witnesses to the conversation.
"The speculation is completely false, baseless and a deliberate attempt to drag him into needless political controversy," the statement said.
Eze added that the report had all the characteristics of fabricated news designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stressed that Jonathan has never been involved in any arrangement relating to an alleged N500 billion offer or any plan to undermine Peter Obi or influence voting patterns in the South-South region.
According to the statement, the former president has not made any public or private remarks suggesting he was offered money to contest the presidency or work against any candidate.
The media aide urged Nigerians to disregard the report completely and verify politically sensitive claims before sharing them on social media or other platforms.
He also warned that election periods often witness a rise in misinformation, fake quotations and fabricated reports intended to confuse the public.
