The Diogo Jota FC Pro World Championship Trophy has been unveiled by EA Sports as a lasting tribute to the late Liverpool forward, marking one year since his tragic death alongside his brother, Andre Silva.

The gaming company announced that, with the blessing of Jota's family, the FC Pro World Championship Trophy has officially been renamed in recognition of his passion for EA Sports FC, competitive esports, and his role as the founder of his own esports organisation.

According to EA Sports, the newly renamed trophy will be presented for the first time at this summer's FC Pro World Championship, with the company pledging to continue working closely with Jota's family to find meaningful ways to preserve his legacy.

In a statement, EA Sports said its thoughts remain with Jota's family, friends, teammates and the millions of fans who admired him both on and off the football pitch.

Friday marks the first anniversary of the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who lost their lives in a tragic car accident.

Jota's passing came only weeks after helping Liverpool win the Premier League title. Just 11 days before the accident, he had married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for family, friends and supporters.

During his time at Liverpool, the Portuguese international scored 65 goals in 182 appearances, playing a vital role in the club's success. He helped the Reds win the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup, becoming a fan favourite for his work ethic, versatility and clinical finishing.

On the anniversary of his death, several former teammates and coaches paid emotional tributes to the forward.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, manager Arne Slot, former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espírito Santo, and ex-teammate Conor Coady all remembered Jota as a humble, selfless and respected professional.

Arne Slot said Jota always put the team before himself, while Nuno Espírito Santo described him as someone who was loved by everyone who knew him.

The decision to introduce the Diogo Jota FC Pro World Championship Trophy highlights the lasting impact the Portuguese star made beyond football, celebrating not only his achievements on the pitch but also his passion for gaming and the esports community.

As fans around the world remember Jota and his brother, the renamed trophy will serve as a permanent reminder of a player whose influence extended far beyond the game of football.
