Central Bank of Nigeria plans to raise N5.8 trillion through Treasury Bills in the third quarter of 2026.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will raise N5.8 trillion through Treasury Bills during the third quarter of 2026 as part of the Federal Government's borrowing plan to finance the 2026 budget.

The amount represents a 241 percent increase compared to the N1.76 trillion raised through Treasury Bills during the corresponding period in 2025, according to the Nigeria Treasury Bills Issue Programme for Q3 2026 released by the apex bank.

Treasury Bills are short-term government debt instruments with maturities of less than one year. They are issued by the CBN on behalf of the Federal Government to raise funds while also serving as a key monetary policy tool for managing liquidity and controlling money supply in the economy.

According to the issuance calendar, the Treasury Bills programme will run from July 1 to September 23, 2026, while settlement dates will span July 2 to September 24, 2026.

Under the programme, the apex bank plans to issue N900 billion in 91-day Treasury Bills, another N900 billion in 182-day Treasury Bills, and N4 trillion in 364-day Treasury Bills, bringing the total planned issuance to N5.8 trillion.

A breakdown of the issuance schedule shows that in July, the CBN intends to raise N2 trillion, consisting of N300 billion in 91-day bills, N300 billion in 182-day bills and N1.4 trillion in 364-day bills.

In August, the bank plans to issue N2.1 trillion, comprising N300 billion in 91-day bills, N300 billion in 182-day bills and N1.5 trillion in 364-day bills.

For September, the CBN has scheduled the sale of N1.7 trillion in Treasury Bills, including N300 billion in 91-day bills, N300 billion in 182-day bills and N1.1 trillion in 364-day Treasury Bills.
