The Black Panther III announcement was made during Marvel Studios’ presentation at Comic-Con on Saturday, where Jonsson appeared before thousands of fans in the iconic Hall H.
The actor, known for his roles in HBO’s Industry and the 2025 film The Long Walk, will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the son of T’Challa, the legendary Black Panther originally portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman.
Boseman became a global star following the release of Black Panther in 2018. The acclaimed actor died in 2020 at the age of 43 after battling colon cancer, leaving a lasting legacy within the Marvel franchise.
Addressing fans during the Comic-Con panel, Jonsson expressed his excitement about joining the Marvel family.
“Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join,” he told the audience.
He added, “I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let this screen do the talk.”
Oscar-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who directed the first two Black Panther films, will return to direct Black Panther III.
Joining Jonsson and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on stage, Coogler revealed that the new film will focus on T’Challa’s son as he grows into adulthood and follows in his father’s footsteps to become Wakanda’s next protector.
