Justice Mohammed Umar, who presided over the case, ordered that the defendant provide two sureties in the sum of N200 million each as part of the bail conditions.
According to the court, one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the second surety must own a property located in Abuja.
The court also directed Omoyele Sowore to deposit his international travel documents with the Deputy Registrar of the court pending the determination of the case.
Justice Umar noted that although the court had revoked Sowore’s earlier bail on June 16 for failing to appear in court, it considered his willingness to submit himself for trial.
The judge observed that Sowore voluntarily appeared before the court without waiting to be arrested, a factor that influenced the court’s decision to exercise its discretion in granting fresh bail.
During the proceedings, Sowore’s counsel informed the court that his client’s passport is currently with the United States Embassy in Lagos.
The lawyer explained that Sowore would need to appear in person to retrieve the passport before depositing it with the court as ordered.
The defence also urged the court to release Sowore to his legal team to enable him to fulfil the bail conditions within the stipulated period.
The case was subsequently adjourned for the continuation of trial as the defendant moves to meet the court’s bail requirements.
