The attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday when the armed men stormed the school and fired several gunshots into the air, causing panic among students, teachers and residents.
During the invasion, the attackers reportedly forced an unknown number of NECO candidates into the nearby bush.
According to reports, one teacher lost his life during the attack, while another sustained injuries. Authorities are yet to officially confirm the reported death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said security agencies are still working to determine the exact number of students abducted.
“At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air.
During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing,” Daso said.
The police spokesperson added that the command could not immediately verify reports of fatalities linked to the attack.
Meanwhile, security personnel, including the Nigerian military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), police officers and the Area Commander in Askira/Uba, have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
The teams are currently combing nearby forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and track down the attackers.
