FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth €80 million (£69 million). The 25-year-old forward has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish giants.

FC Barcelona have completed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in one of the biggest transfer deals of the summer.

The England international joined Barcelona on a five-year contract after the Spanish club reportedly agreed to pay €80 million for the winger.

Anthony Gordon impressed during his time at Newcastle after arriving from Everton FC in 2023.

The winger enjoyed a strong UEFA Champions League campaign last season, recording 10 goals and two assists for Newcastle during their European run.

Although his Premier League form was less explosive in the 2025/26 season, Gordon still managed six league goals and remained an important player for the club.

Overall, the English forward leaves St James’ Park with 39 goals and 28 assists in 152 appearances.

Anthony Gordon played a major role during Newcastle’s recent rise under their Saudi-backed ownership, helping the club qualify for the Champions League twice and win the EFL Cup — their first major trophy in over 50 years.

The transfer also ends speculation surrounding Gordon’s future ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup, where he is expected to represent England national football team.

During his unveiling at Barcelona, Gordon surprised journalists by speaking fluent Spanish, revealing he had dreamed of playing for Barcelona since childhood.

According to the winger, he started learning Spanish years ago because he always believed he would one day play for the Catalan club.

He also expressed excitement about playing alongside young Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and other top players in the squad.

Gordon said the quality of Barcelona’s players became obvious when Newcastle faced the Spanish side in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Newcastle had drawn 1-1 with Barcelona at St James’ Park in the first leg before eventually losing 8-3 on aggregate.

Earlier in the transfer window, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe admitted there were ongoing discussions regarding Gordon’s future amid interest from FC Bayern Munich.

However, Barcelona eventually secured the winger’s signature in a major boost ahead of the new season.
