Some Countries Reportedly Reject Tinubu’s Ambassadorial Nominees Over Short Tenure Concerns

Reports that Tinubu ambassadors rejected by host countries have emerged after some nations allegedly refused to grant diplomatic approval to envoys recently appointed by Nigeria’s president.

Fresh diplomatic challenges may be facing the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu after reports indicated that some countries are reluctant to accept newly appointed Nigerian ambassadors.

Sources within Nigeria’s diplomatic circles revealed that several host countries have yet to grant agrément, the formal approval required before an ambassador can officially assume duties.

Without this approval, the envoy cannot begin work in the host nation.
The development has fueled discussions about the issue of Tinubu ambassadors rejected in certain diplomatic postings.

One of the countries reportedly involved is India, which allegedly signalled its refusal to accept Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to New Delhi, Muhammad Dahiru.

According to diplomatic sources, India cited a practice that discourages accepting ambassadors from governments with less than two years remaining in office.

The rule is believed to exist in some countries to avoid frequent diplomatic changes when a new government takes power.

Although the situation remains unofficial, the report has intensified conversations about Tinubu ambassadors rejected due to potential short service periods before Nigeria’s next election cycle.

The issue comes shortly after President Tinubu approved the deployment of about 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions around the world.

The move followed the earlier recall of envoys appointed by the previous administration, which left several Nigerian embassies without ambassadors for months.
Diplomatic insiders say the hesitation from some host nations may not be related to the competence of the nominees.

Instead, it is reportedly tied to concerns that the ambassadors may serve only briefly before another government takes office in Nigeria.

When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said he had no information regarding the reports.

“I have no information on that,” Ebienfa stated.

Despite the uncertainty, analysts say the discussion around Tinubu ambassadors rejected could raise questions about Nigeria’s diplomatic strategy as the government seeks to restore full ambassadorial representation across its foreign missions.
