INEC 2027 ELECTION TIMETABLE

INEC 2027 election timetable Nigeria deadline extension
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a key update as part of preparations for the next general elections, with the INEC 2027 election timetable revised to accommodate political parties.

The INEC 2027 election timetable adjustment follows concerns raised by stakeholders regarding compliance deadlines.

INEC confirmed that the deadline for submission of party membership registers has been extended to May 10, 2026, replacing the earlier April 21 date.

According to the commission, the extension ensures compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires submissions at least 21 days before party primaries.

New Window for Party Primaries

Political parties are now permitted to conduct their primaries within the updated timeframe of:

April 23 to May 30, 2026

This provides greater flexibility for internal party processes under the INEC 2027 election timetable.

INEC emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the revised schedule to guarantee a smooth and credible electoral process.

The commission urged all political parties to align their activities with the updated guidelines.

Early Preparations for 2027 Elections

The INEC 2027 election timetable update marks an early but significant step in Nigeria’s electoral preparations.

Stakeholders are expected to use the extended deadlines to better organize their primaries and ensure compliance with electoral regulations.
