Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Saturday, February 28, as part of a joint military operation between the U.S. and Israel aimed at halting Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
The U.S. and Israeli forces launched a preemptive strike against Iran, targeting high-ranking government officials and key military sites. The attack was described by both countries as a defensive measure against Iran's nuclear weapons program. Israeli officials confirmed that Khamenei, the 86-year-old leader who has ruled Iran since 1989, was killed in the strike.
According to Israeli intelligence, Khamenei’s body was recovered from his destroyed compound following the military operation, which also included missiles that targeted key locations across Tehran. It was reported that the first attacks on Iran specifically targeted areas near Khamenei’s offices.
In response to the attack, Iran launched missile strikes targeting Israel and several other countries across the Middle East. The situation remains volatile, with growing concerns over escalating tensions in the region.
Although details of Khamenei's exact whereabouts during the attack remain unclear, his death was confirmed several hours after the initial strikes.
