Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has alleged that the late Ifunanya Nwagene was killed by her pet snake, insisting that the incident was not related to a lack of antivenom treatment.
In a statement shared online, Olunloyo claimed that Ifunanya had a deep affection for snakes and reportedly kept them as pets — a fact she says was known among her close friends.
“Ifunanya loved snakes and she kept them as pets. Her close friends know that. This was not an antivenom issue. Her pet killed her; she had a spiritual connection to snakes,” Olunloyo stated.
The claim comes amid widespread speculation surrounding the circumstances of Ifunanya’s death, which was earlier reported to have occurred following a snake bite at her Abuja residence.
However, Olunloyo’s comments have drawn mixed reactions, with many Nigerians questioning the accuracy and sensitivity of the statement, while others called for official clarification from medical authorities and the deceased’s family.
