The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a significant move set to take effect from April 2024, enforcing a freeze on bank accounts lacking both the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the National Identification Number (NIN).
This directive, conveyed through a circular dispatched to deposit money banks, mandates a "Post no Debit" restriction on these accounts, preventing account holders from making withdrawals, transfers, or any debits.
To comply with the CBN's directive, account holders without either BVN or NIN need to ensure electronic revalidation by January 31, 2024.

The circular, jointly signed by Chibuzo Efobi, Director of Payments System Management Department, and Haruna Mustapha, Director of Financial Policy and Regulation Department, serves as a crucial reminder for affected customers to take prompt action to avoid disruptions to their banking activities.
This regulatory step by the CBN aims to ensure compliance with identification and verification protocols, emphasizing the necessity of having BVN or NIN linked to accounts or wallets for seamless banking operations.
