A tragic incident occurred in Mpape, near Abuja's Maitama District, where a tipper truck carrying sharp sand experienced brake failure and caused a devastating accident. This accident, which took place around 4 p.m. near the Keke NAPEP Park on the road to Mpape junction, resulted in the loss of at least eight lives, including students.
Witnesses reported that the truck collided with tricycles (Keke) and vehicles, leading to the casualties. The driver, upon realizing the extent of the damage, abandoned the truck and fled with the help of a motorcycle.
It was suggested that the accident might have been triggered by a burst tire, causing the truck to lose control. Sadly, the absence of a warning horn from the truck hindered bystanders' ability to react and avoid the catastrophe.
The FCT Sector Commander, Chorrie Mutaa, confirmed the incident, reporting that five people lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries. The accident involved 13 vehicles, including the truck responsible for the tragedy.
