Out of the 836 foreign-trained medical graduates who participated in the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria's qualifying examination held at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, 433 candidates did not meet the passing criteria.

The assessment, conducted across four centers in Kano State, included a computer-based test, picture-based test, and an objective structural clinical examination.

Reports indicated that a significant number of candidates struggled notably in the computer-based test (CBT). Initially shortlisted in Abuja, a total of 836 candidates took part in the examination, but only 403 successfully passed.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) oversees the regulation of Medicine, Dentistry, and Alternative Medicine in the country, aiming to safeguard the healthcare system.

This assessment, conducted biannually, evaluates candidates' proficiency in applying their fundamental medical sciences and clinical skills in a healthcare environment.

The outcome of this recent examination highlights the challenges faced by a substantial proportion of foreign-trained medical graduates and underscores the rigorous standards upheld by the MDCN in ensuring the competence of practitioners entering the nation's healthcare system.
