The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia has made a decisive ruling, dismissing all petitions lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe, and his party against the election of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
The tribunal's judgment, delivered on Friday, October 6, 2023, around 1:20 pm, cited the lack of merit in Ahaiwe's case.
Ahaiwe, represented by his lawyer Paul Ananaba, SAN, had sought to challenge Governor Otti's election, urging the court to remove Otti and declare him the winner. Among his claims was that Otti's victory did not align with Section 77 of the Electoral Act.
