The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) has declared the Labour Party (LP)'s petition regarding irregularities in the 2023 presidential election as generic and lacking in specificity. The Tribunal emphasized that when alleging irregularities in a specific polling unit, the petitioner must prove those irregularities in that particular unit for the petition to succeed. In this case, the LP did not provide proof of irregularities in specific polling units or specify the units where irregularities were alleged to have occurred.
The court noted that elections are determined by figures, and the LP only provided figures for alleged suppressed votes in one instance, without specifying the affected polling units.
The LP had alleged that INEC reduced their scores and added them to the APC's votes, but the court found that the LP failed to provide evidence of their actual scores before the alleged reductions or identify the polling units where these actions occurred.
