Premier League introduced five subs from next season

 After agreeing to the rule change late on Thursday, Premier League clubs will be able to make five substitutes starting in the 2022/23 season.

Due to fixture congestion caused by the coronavirus pandemic, English Premier League teams were allowed to make five changes during the closing parts of the 2019/20 season.

It should be remembered that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola were vocal opponents of the earlier refusal to implement the adjustment due to the expectations imposed on players by the English game.

However, unlike in other major leagues and European events, the rule was later changed to three substitutions per side because to concerns that more changes would give larger teams with deeper rosters an unfair edge.

The Premier League announced in a statement that "from next season, clubs will be entitled to deploy five substitutes, to be made three times throughout a match, plus an additional option at half-time."

The Premier League has also stated that the summer transfer market will open on June 10 and finish on September 1 at 11 p.m.

"It was also confirmed that, in accordance with other European leagues, the Summer 2022 Transfer Window will commence on 10 June and finish at 23:00 BST on 1 September," Sky Sports reports.

The league also declared that starting Monday, only symptomatic persons will be tested for Covid-19.

"Furthermore, the Premier League has updated the remaining COVID-19 measures today.

"The League will discontinue twice-weekly COVID-19 testing of players and employees on April 4 and instead focus on symptomatic testing. 

"As the Premier League returns to business as usual, the requirement for clinical passports to access formerly restricted areas at training fields and on match days has been eliminated.

"The Premier League will continue to monitor the national COVID-19 situation and update League-wide protocols as necessary, in line with the latest advise from public health authorities and medical experts," says the statement.
