Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged Imo civil personnel to refrain from blackmailing his administration.
This is according to a statement issued Monday in Owerri by the governor's Chief press secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku.
"All verified 43,000 workers without issues will never be owed salaries by this government because we do not regard payment of salary as achievement by any governor. The worker deserves his wage,” the governor was quoted to have said.
He added, "Promotion issues will be looked into as long as the workers remain committed, and we want you to desist from blackmailing government.
"Your happiness is my happiness. Your sadness is my sadness. Your hunger is my hunger."
Meanwhile, the governor's Chief of Staff, Camilus Iwuagwu, congratulated him for instituting the automated payroll system, fast payment of salaries and pensions, free public transportation, a civil servants clinic, and worker training.
Mr Iwuagwu also praised the governor for agreeing to reconsider the legitimate instances of workers and pensioners whose names were removed from the list of those who will be given salary and pensions.
