Loveth Odah, an Ebonyi police spokeswoman, said on Wednesday that the police would look into a report filed by a woman who claimed her husband abandoned her after she gave birth to twins by Cesarean section.

According to Ms Odah, the woman, Amaka Chinwendu, informed the police on Tuesday that she and her husband began to have problems after she gave birth to twins.

Ms Odah, a deputy superintendent of police, stated, "We will carry with our inquiry and I trust that justice will be done."

Due to cultural views, the 33-year-old woman was abandoned and driven out of her marriage by her husband, she told journalists in Abakaliki.

Mrs Chinwendu, from Ekka in Ebonyi's Ezza South Local Government Area, married Chinwendu Woko, from Igbo-Etche in Rivers State's Etche Local Government Area.

"My husband abandoned me and my babies at the hospital because his culture despises twins and any woman who gives birth by Cesarean section."

"Yes, we already had a child before the twins arrived." "Our first child is a girl, and the twins, Desmond and Diamond, are a boy and a girl," Mrs Chinwendu explained.

She claims she began to have disagreements with her husband after he informed her that in their country, women are not permitted to give birth by Cesarean section.

She stated that this occurred before their first child was born.

"According to my husband, a lady giving birth through C-Section is considered taboo in their village, Igbo-Etche."

"To God's glory, I had a normal delivery with our first kid, but I didn't find out I was expecting twins until I was seven months pregnant with our second."

"As soon as my husband found out, we began to argue."

"He began to beat the living daylights out of me, vowing never to look after me or even assist me with any home chores."

"He went away when I was having the twins delivered by C-section, and I have no idea where he is now."

"At first, my husband insisted that I abort the pregnancy in order for us to continue," she explained.

Mrs Chinwendu stated that she had no regrets about what she has done.

“At first, my husband wanted me to terminate the pregnancy for us to continue, but I refused,” she said.

Mrs Chinwendu said she does not regret her actions, adding that she had no plan of going back to live with her husband.

"Right now, my main concern is for the infants." I'll be fine without anything else if he can take his children.

"My God and biological brothers have been my helpers; my brothers paid for our hospital fees and have been purchasing our food."

She said, "The twins are great; they are two months old."
