The parents of the 44th Miss Nigeria, Shatu Garko, are expected to be summoned by the Kano State Hisbah Board, often known as Sharia Police, for their daughter's 'illegal' involvement in the beauty competition.
Hisbah stated that in the Islamic religion, it was permissible for her to compete in any beauty pageant.
"We (Hisbah) have confirmed that Shatu Garko is a Muslim from Kano state, and that her parents are from the Garko Local Government Area," she said. We will not allow the matter to pass because Kano is a sharia state.
"We will invite the parents to talk to them about their daughter's activities and the fact that what she did is unlawful in Islam in case they don't know, so that she doesn't continue down that path and other girls don't emulate her," Sheik Ibn Sina, the Hisbah chairman, told BBC News Pidgin.
Under the Muslim religion, it was banned to compete in any beauty contest, according to the Hisbah leadership.
Shatu Garko, an 18-year-old hijabi has become the first Muslim to win the Miss Nigeria pageant since its inception in 1957.
