A statement bt the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, says, desperate efforts by drug cartels to export different quantities of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine and Cannabis to London, United Kingdom through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos were scuttled by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The Narcotic officers had during outward routine clearance of cargo at Nigerian Aviation Handling Company export shed of the airport intercepted twenty parcels of Cocaine weighing one point two kilogrammes concealed in packets of Zee black soap; twenty three parcels of Heroin weighing one point four kilogrammes also hidden in packets of Zee black soap and thirty nine parcels of two point thirty five kilogrammes of Methamphetamine concealed in Dudu-Osun black soap packets.
Some days earlier, a similar cargo had been intercepted at the NAHCO shed of the MMIA, where seven point thirty five kilogrammes of Cannabis concealed inside some tablets of Dudu Osun black soap were recovered.
The statement also noted that no fewer than three suspects have so far been arrested in connection to the seizures including a thirty five-year-old mother of a two months-old-baby, Mariam Adetilewa Dirisu
who was first arrested on twenty first October by the Edo state Command of the Agency and was granted bail for attempting to smuggle drugs concealed in cassava flour meal called akpu into NDLEA cell for a suspect in custody, only to be rearrested by the agency for trafficking in five kilogrammes skunk and eight point one grams of Molly.
The nursing mother who claims to be a part-time four hundred-level student of International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of Benin had ordered for the drugs from Lagos even while still on bail for an earlier offence not minding the fact that the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, retired Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa had during the previous offence, directed that she be counselled and released immediately because of her young baby.
In Ondo state, no less than one thousand, six hundred and forty five kilogrammes of cannabis were seized in three interdiction operations in parts of the state and a total of nine suspects were arrested including a white Mercedes Benz truck and monetary exhibit of twenty thousand naira also recovered.
The two suspected fake security agents; Umar Ibrahim and Sadiq Abubakar as well as their accomplice, Auwal Hassan were arrested in Kogi state while conveying a total of one hundred and five point four kilogrammes of cannabis from Ondo state to Kaduna on Saturday in a Mercedes Benz C 180 car with registration number Abuja BWR 924 KH.
Raids at three black spots in Oshodi, Ikeja and Ogba areas of Lagos State led to the arrest of a fifteen-year-old female Senior Secondary two student, Walaka Adams, with one hundred grammes of cannabis sativa; Sodiq Ganun, a 24-year-old wielder with two hundred grammes of cannabis and Tajudeen Azeez, who was arrested with nine grammes of Cocaine.
At a drug joint in Ogba area of Ikeja, different quantities of abandoned drugs such as Molly, Rohypnol and Codeine based syrup were recovered.
While commending the officers and men of the MMIA, Delta, Ondo, Kogi and Lagos Commands of the Agency for not resting on their oars, retired Brigadier General Marwa charged them and their counterparts in other Commands to remain resolute in the ongoing efforts to cut access and availability of illicit drugs across the country.
