Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has stated that the federal government is open to all types of solutions, including a political solution, to resolve the crisis surrounding separatist agitations in the country's south east and south west.

Malami revealed this to a group of journalists in Abuja on Wednesday. Although the AGF stated that criminal acts would never go unpunished, he also stated that the government has used the amnesty policy to address some security issues in the country, and that a political solution cannot be ruled out.

"You cannot rule out all possibilities as far as the security situation and governance and this administration are concerned," he said, adding, "But then there has to be an approach for government to consider."

He explained, however, that he cannot be pre-emotive at this point by stating unequivocally that reconciliation is being considered without a formal approach.

According to Malami, the government "will look into it for the purpose of looking at its weight, the authenticity of it, and the good faith associated with it, and then bring about the significant factors relating to the negotiations or otherwise."

"As a result, it's not a conclusion that can be reached without considering related facts about the reconciliation. There must be a strategy and then a counter-strategy."
