Gov. Fayemi, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to convert NYSC camps into security training grounds in order to recruit "able" graduates for military service.
"With this, we will be able to use the existing orientation camps to train capable graduates to reflate security personnel under a special arrangement that will be worked out."
As a result, the fund currently deployed to the NYSC can be supplemented with just a small amount of additional funding, which could be sourced through a national emergency fund over the next five to ten years "He elaborated.
"Those who refuse to join the military will be forced to serve in their communities for free.
Mr. Fayemi explained that the step was necessary and a less expensive way for Nigeria to obtain the 200,000 security personnel needed to combat the country's worsening insecurity.
"According to available statistics, we require a minimum of 200,000 personnel to increase the fighting power of our men," said Ekiti's governor.
