The Academia died on 29th March 2021 in a motor accident along Abakaliki-Afikpo Highway, he died aged 63.

Until his death, Professor Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta was a Professor of Mathematics at University of Benin and Former Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara
