After being directed to investigate former Head, Intelligence Response Team and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, a four-man Special Investigation Panel led by Joseph Egbunike, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, has submitted its report to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.

The panel was formed after Kyari was suspended by the Police Service Commission and replaced by Tunji Disu, who was indicted in a $1.1 million Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by an Instagram influencer, Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi, and four others: AbdulRahman Juma (Abdul); Vincent Kelly Chibuzo (Kelly); Rukayat Motunrayo Fashola (Morayo); and Bolatito Agbabiaka.

The SIP meetings with Kyari were calm and friendly, according to the publication, and gave the DCP confidence that he would be cleared of the allegations because he and Egbunike have a long-standing connection.

Egbunike is an Assistant Commissioner of Police at the police Accounts Department, where Kyari worked for more than 15 years.

According to the source, the panel presented the report last week, but the IG rejected it because it was too mild on Kyari.

"Last Thursday or Friday, the panel completed its inquiry and presented its findings to the IG, but the IG rejected it. The panel's findings and recommendations did not sit well with him."
