What this mean is that Varane will miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Premier League champions Liverpool.
Initially the French man is set to start in the line up for Zinedine Zidane’s side but a test returned positive this morning just few hours to clash making the 27-year-old unavailable.
The Spanish giants will now be without their captain Sergio Ramos who is already sidelined due to a calf injury he picked up on international duty with Spain.
This was announced on the club website, "Real Madrid C. F. informs that our player Raphael Varane tested positive in the COVID-19 test he underwent this morning."
