Abia State Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the month of April, will hold on Saturday, April 25,2020, between the hours of 9am-11am.
The statement signed by the state Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Solomon Ogunji, said that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.
"The Transition Committee Chairmen of the Local Government Councils, Tradit
ional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in the state, who are already implementing the lockdown exercise should participate as a larger quantity of refuse and waste are expected as a result of the stay at home order that is in place.
"All markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed as directed by the state government.
He also said that, the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps are to assemble at their usual places of takeoff for deployment."
According to Dr Solomon he directed the people of the state to stay back and clean up their areas especially now there is an outbreak of coronavirus which has turned into a global pandemic.
"Any workforce during the exercise must not exceed ten (10) people and must work with their face mask as has been directed by government."
He also concluded that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environment Law.
