Laver Cup named after tennis legend Rod Laver was announced last week that Geneva would be hosting the 2019 Laver Cup which is Roger Federer’s home country.
This year’s edition takes place in Chicago with Nadal set to miss out but Novak Djokovic will make his debut at the tournament.
The competition being held in Federer’s home country next year, Roger Federer is hoping he can convince some of the game’s biggest stars, including Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Djokovic and Nadal, to all feature. And he went on to hint that the 2019 Laver Cup could be the perfect call to his illustrious career.
“When Geneva said they were interested, that's when I started to dream, to tell myself that it would be incredible, fabulous for the end of my career,” Federer told L’Equipe.
“I could speak to all the top guys, Big Four and Stan (Wawrinka). And maybe I could get as many guys as possible interested and playing together and just bring such a great event to a city that has seen a lot of tennis over the years and likes tennis, which I think is always crucial for the Laver Cup wherever we go.
The teams for both Team Europe and Team World were confirmed last week when Kyle Edmund and Jack Sock were revealed as the two 2018 wildcards.
Bjorn Borg, Team Europe’s captain, will have Federer, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitroc, Djokovic, David Goffin and Edmund to call upon.
While John McEnroe, Team World’s captain, has Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin Anderson, John Isnder, Diego Schwartzman, Sock and Nick Kyrgios on his side.
