Gvardiol signs new deal to stay at Man City until 2031

Manchester City have officially finalized a major Josko Gvardiol contract extension, securing the future of the Croatian defender at the Etihad Stadium through June 2031 with an option for an additional 12 months.

The 24-year-old international, whose previous deal had two years remaining, attracted interest from European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before committing his long-term future to the English champions. 

Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £77 million ($102 million), Gvardiol has made 122 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating impressive versatility at center-back and left-back while winning the Premier League title in 2024 alongside multiple domestic and international honors.

Addressing the Josko Gvardiol contract extension, the defender expressed his happiness, noting that extending his stay was an easy decision due to the immense support from fans and the world-class environment provided by the club. 

Having recovered from a four-month layoff due to a broken leg to return in May and feature in Croatia's World Cup campaign, Gvardiol is now focused on cementing his key role under new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca.

Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana praised the defender, calling him an outstanding professional and one of the finest back-line talents in world football. 

Securing the Josko Gvardiol contract extension represents another strategic win for the club's long-term planning, following recent contract renewals for core teammates Phil Foden and Abdukodir Khusanov.
