Eddie Howe has departed Newcastle United after almost five years at the helm of the club, bringing an abrupt end to a managerial tenure that delivered the League Cup in 2025 and back-to-back Champions League qualifications.

The transition is not expected to face any significant complications — Al-Ahli, like Newcastle United, falls under the ownership umbrella of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, meaning the two clubs share the same principal investors and any agreed release of Jaissle from his current contract is unlikely to be contested. 

Jaissle brings a profile that aligns closely with the direction Newcastle’s football operation has taken since Ross Wilson’s appointment as director of football, a role that has shifted recruitment policy toward younger players with high resale value and a broadly defined price range of £20 million to £40 million per signing.

The Eddie Howe leaves Newcastle story arrives at a particularly turbulent moment for the club. This summer has already seen the high-profile departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, while considerable uncertainty continues to surround the future of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

Despite a disappointing twelfth-place Premier League finish last season, Howe had appeared to secure the backing of PIF for an additional year following a summit meeting held at a Northumberland country house hotel in April, making his exit all the more unexpected.
