Okafor Somotochukwu, who identified himself as the third son of the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, publicly challenged claims made by his stepmother regarding the actor’s children and estate.

In a statement shared online, Somotochukwu said he decided to speak out after watching a video in which his stepmother allegedly appealed for financial assistance while claiming that her children were the only children the late actor had.

According to him, the claim is false, insisting that Mr Ibu had several children from different relationships, including older and younger siblings.

Somotochukwu stated that his decision to address the matter was motivated by what he described as an attempt to erase the existence of other members of the actor’s family.

He alleged that a Lagos property belonging to his father was sold for ₦60 million and that he was not informed or given any share of the proceeds.

He further claimed that another property in Enugu was sold for approximately ₦17 million and that he only received ₦40,000, which was presented to him as a gift.

Somotochukwu also alleged that a property in Asaba was sold for ₦11 million without any benefit being extended to him.

In addition, he claimed there were funds in bank accounts and money reportedly donated by Nigerians during Mr Ibu’s health challenges before his death.

According to him, despite these assets, he struggled financially and was unable to settle educational expenses, including fees needed to access his WAEC results.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, passed away in 2024 after battling health complications.

Since his death, discussions surrounding his estate and family affairs have occasionally surfaced in the public space.
