The political crisis in Rivers State deepened on Friday as loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara reportedly lost out in the screening process for the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries, while allies of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike were cleared to participate.

According to reports, the APC screening committee disqualified three serving members of the House of Representatives believed to be loyal to Governor Fubara ahead of the party primaries scheduled for tomorrow.

The affected lawmakers are Hon. Anderson Alisson, Hon. Abiante Awaji Imombek, and Hon. Boma Goodhead.

The three lawmakers were among those who openly supported Governor Fubara during the prolonged political battle in Rivers State and were also reportedly among the lawmakers who defected alongside him to the APC.

Meanwhile, several politicians linked to Nyesom Wike were cleared by the screening committee to contest in the primaries. Those reportedly cleared include Hon. Hart Cyril, Hon. Blessing Amadi, Hon. Dumnamene Detor, Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Hon. Victor Chukwuemele Obuzor.

Also cleared was Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who is expected to replace O.K. Chinda after the latter reportedly purchased APC governorship nomination forms.

Sources within the party also revealed that another Fubara ally, Boniface Sunday Emerengwa, is believed to have obtained Senate nomination forms, although the final list of cleared aspirants has not yet been officially released.

The latest development is being viewed by political observers as another major setback for Governor Fubara in the ongoing power struggle within Rivers State politics.

The battle between camps loyal to Governor Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike has continued to dominate the political landscape in the state over recent months.

As preparations for the APC primaries continue, attention now turns to how the disqualification of the lawmakers may affect the balance of political power within Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
