South Africa Condemns Xenophobic Attacks on Ghanaian and Foreign Nationals

The Ministry of Police South Africa has condemned xenophobic attacks on Ghanaian nationals and other foreign nationals, warning that perpetrators will face the full force of the law as authorities move to contain rising tensions. 

In an official statement, the ministry described the incidents as unlawful and a direct violation of the democratic values of dignity, equality, and human rights upheld in South Africa. The government stressed that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of grievances. 

The ministry confirmed that the South African Police Service has been directed to act swiftly and decisively against those involved in the violence. It warned that anyone found participating in, inciting, or supporting acts of xenophobia, looting, or intimidation will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted. 

Authorities noted that the recent attacks targeting Ghanaian nationals and other foreign residents have raised serious concerns about public safety and national unity. The government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance, emphasizing that such actions undermine the rule of law and threaten social cohesion. 

The Ministry of Police also appealed to communities across the country to remain calm and reject attempts to incite division. It called on community leaders, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in restoring peace and preventing further escalation. 

As tensions continue to draw attention, officials say dialogue and cooperation remain critical to addressing underlying issues and promoting coexistence among residents.
