Nigerian businesswoman Tracynither Ohiri has tendered a public apology to Minister of Works Dave Umahi, bringing a dramatic and widely followed controversy to what appears to be a sudden close — weeks after her allegations of an unpaid ₦200 million debt and inappropriate personal conduct against the minister ignited a fierce national debate across social media and political circles.
The dispute traces its origins to allegations Tracynither Ohiri levelled publicly against Dave Umahi, claiming the minister owed her approximately ₦200 million for promotional and campaign materials she said were supplied during his 2014 governorship campaign in Ebonyi State.
Beyond the financial claim, Ohiri went further — alleging that Umahi made inappropriate personal advances toward her during the course of their interactions. It was this second allegation, layered on top of the debt claim, that transformed what might have remained a business dispute into a full-scale public controversy.

For several weeks, the Ohiri-Umahi saga dominated news cycles and became one of the most discussed stories in Nigerian political and entertainment spaces simultaneously.
Minister Dave Umahi responded swiftly and forcefully to the allegations, issuing categorical denials on both counts. He dismissed the ₦200 million debt claim entirely, challenging Ohiri to produce verifiable documentation — contracts, bank transfer records, receipts, or any form of paper trail — that could substantiate her assertion that campaign materials were supplied and payment withheld.
On the harassment allegation, Umahi was equally direct. He pointed to his decades-long public career — spanning service as a party chairman, deputy governor, two-term governor of Ebonyi State, senator, and now federal minister — as evidence of a track record unblemished by similar accusations. He argued that a man who had occupied such prominent and scrutinised public positions over so many years without a single comparable allegation could not credibly be characterised in the manner Ohiri had described.
The minister also addressed the social media dimension of the controversy head-on, stating publicly that online pressure campaigns would not distract him from his mandate overseeing Nigeria's national infrastructure projects under President Tinubu's administration.
Following weeks of heated public exchanges, mounting pressure from various quarters, and what sources describe as behind-the-scenes engagement, Tracynither Ohiri appeared in a video in which she apologised to Dave Umahi — a development that caught many observers by surprise given the intensity with which she had initially pressed her claims.
