The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) jointly announced the suspension of the ongoing strike. This decision came following the intervention of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

After a meeting lasting nearly an hour, involving various union affiliates and state chapters, the suspension was confirmed. Tommy Etim, the National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, highlighted the trust placed in Ribadu's assurances, leading to the decision to suspend the strike.

The meeting between labour leaders and Ribadu, alongside Labour Minister Simon Lalong, was convened at the Office of the NSA earlier that day. The NSA informed them of the arrest of those responsible for the reported brutalization of NLC's National President, Joe Ajaero.

The labour unions had protested against the alleged assault on Ajaero and the government's failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, 2023. The intervention of the NSA appears to have resulted in a temporary resolution, leading to the suspension of the strike and a move toward ending the labour unrest.
