The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Nigerian socialite Cubana Chief Priest on charges of money laundering and tax fraud.
Pascal Okechukwu, his real name, was arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday, but anti-graft officers kept quiet about it due to pressure from his friends and family, who warned that the occurrence may worsen things for others suspected of being part in the alleged racket.
Mr Okechukwu's arrest has made it impossible for him to react to birthday greetings from his over four million Instagram followers, according to Peoples Gazette, because only his wife is allowed to see him in custody.
It was unclear when he would be released on bond or how much information officials had gotten from him as of Saturday night.
An anonymous insider claimed, "The situation is still under investigation." Cubana Chief Priest has received national notoriety as an advocate for a number of national brands, including Bullet.
His arrest came just weeks after another socialite, Obi Cubana, was apprehended by the anti-narcotics agency NDLEA.
