Yesterday, the feud between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Rivers colleague, Nyesom Wike, intensified.
Wike's assaults on Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, enraged Obaseki, who said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not Wike's personal property.
The Edo governor stated that political bullies and overlords will not be tolerated, reminding Wike of how he deposed bullies and high-handed leaders. Edo, according to Obaseki, cannot be purchased.
The Edo governor accused Wike of being unguarded and disruptive in an ad in today's publication, calling party leaders to call him to order.
Obaseki defended his deputy's comments on the Edo PDP, saying Wike should have taken a hint from the way the party's national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, replied to Shaibu's statements.
He backed up Shaibu's claim that "the leaders, executives, and members" who defected with him from the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not accepted, merged, or harmonized into the Edo PDP.
He bemoaned the fact that a clique led by Chief Dan Orbih was vilifying and ostracizing the defectors.
Obaseki was perplexed as to why Wike was continually threatening the party and its leaders.
While no one is against Wike's wish to run for President, he should not pursue it in a disruptive manner, according to him.
"While Wike is free to utilize his resources as he sees fit in pursuit of his goal, he should not cow, intimidate, coax, or threaten others into doing his bidding," Obaseki stated.
"Edo State cannot and will not be obtained for the sake of any individual's ambition."
