More than five persons has died in a motor accident at Upper-Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra state, on Tuesday.
The Anambra State Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the incident.
Said many others sustained injuries and were reportedly rushed to nearby hospitals in Anambra.
"A fatal crash has just been reported at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.
"About five people already confirmed dead, others injured. The rescue operation is ongoing.
"Security agencies are there – the army, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps – everybody is there to prevent looting, mob action, and control of traffic movement.
"The number of casualties may exceed five from what is on the ground. (This is) because many people are still trapped, but five have been officially confirmed dead," Anigbo stated.
