The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed that enforcement of the NAFDAC sachet alcohol ban remains absolute, confirming there will be no reversal on restricting small-volume alcoholic drinks across Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview on Friday in Enugu, NAFDAC South East Zonal Director Dr. Festus Ukadike disclosed that crackdown operations targeting manufacturers and distributors of sachet alcohol have already commenced.
Enforcement teams have carried out arrests and product seizures across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states, with the agency preparing for the next phase to mop up remaining small-volume stocks currently on retail market shelves.
Dr. Ukadike emphasized that public health considerations, particularly safeguarding children from developing dangerous drinking habits at a young age, were the primary factors behind the agency's policy.

He noted that restricting access to small-volume alcohol will protect minors, curb anti-social behavior, and reinforce national efforts against cancer and other terminal illnesses associated with high alcohol consumption.
