The lawmaker, whose real name is Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, secured the Senate seat on a platform focused on improving rights and legal protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.
According to Colombian media outlet El Tiempo, Omaña will represent Norte de Santander as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 legislative term. She gained the seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed electoral list.
The Historic Pact emerged as the strongest political force in the election. Data from Colombia’s National Registry showed the coalition won 22.72% of the Senate vote, receiving more than 4.4 million votes and securing 25 seats.
Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult film industry. She has repeatedly stated that her previous career should not define her ability to serve in public office.
According to Infobae Colombia, the senator believes women who have worked in the sexual economy deserve legal recognition and equal opportunities instead of social stigma. She argues that their contributions to the country’s economy should not be ignored.
Responding to criticism over her election, Omaña shared a video on TikTok defending her right to seek public office.
She asked in Spanish: ”¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?” which translates to, “Why can’t a woman who worked in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”
Born in the city of Cúcuta, the new senator has said her legislative priorities extend beyond the rights of adult entertainment workers. Her agenda also includes mental health, sexual abuse prevention, and broader social welfare initiatives.
Omaña’s rise to the Senate follows earlier controversy surrounding her appointment, alongside fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
Her election has attracted significant attention both within Colombia and internationally, with supporters describing it as a step toward greater political inclusion, while critics continue to debate the role of public figures with unconventional professional backgrounds in elected office.
