Ajax reported on Twitter that Andre Onana, a Cameroonian goalkeeper, crashed his car on his route to the national team camp for the World Cup final play-off against Algeria.
When the tragedy occurred, the experienced goalie was supposed to be traveling from Yaounde, the capital, to his country's training camp in Douala.
The 25-year-old, on the other hand, was alleged to have escaped unharmed after his jeep collided with another vehicle in a catastrophic accident.
He did, however, survive the three-vehicle collision without major harm. There have been no recorded casualties so far.
It means the custodian is still eligible for Friday's match between the Indomitable Lions and the former African Cup of Nations champions.
