According to BBC Hausa, a military fighter jet mistakenly bombed the village of Buhari in Yobe State, killing dozens of civilians in the early hours of September 15, 2021.

According to a villager who spoke with the BBC, three fighter jets circled the area before one of the pilots dropped the bomb on civilians.

He went on to say that five of his relatives were killed in the incident. Remember that a similar incident occurred in 2017 when the Nigerian Air Force accidentally bombed an IDP camp in Rann, Borno State.

The military has yet to issue a statement on the incident. Bulama Bukarti, a well-known journalist, reacted to the news by saying, "BBC Hausa reports that many civilians were killed and others injured earlier today when a jet believed to be from the Nigerian Air Force bombed Buhari village, Yunusari LGA, Yobe State."

"Three jets went around, then one of them started firing in the center of the village,” said a witness who lost five relatives.

"Because this area is in the northern part of Yobe, close to the BH/ISWAP area of operation, the jets could have been on an anti-BH mission."

Villagers are unsure whether the jets belong to Nigeria or Niger, but it's unlikely to be Niger's because it's on Nigerian soil.”
